Chicken doner kebab is one of the most famous street foods in Turkey. This homemade version captures the authentic flavor — marinated, juicy chicken slices grilled to perfection and served with pita or lavash bread.
Ingredients:
- 600 g chicken breast or thigh (thinly sliced)
- 3 tbsp yogurt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 garlic clove (crushed)
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp oregano
- Salt
- 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice
Instructions:
- Slice the chicken thinly.
- Mix yogurt, tomato paste, olive oil, garlic, and spices in a bowl.
- Add the chicken and mix well.
- Marinate for at least 3 hours, ideally overnight.
- Stack the chicken on a skewer, wrap tightly in cling film, and freeze for 1 hour.
- Slice thinly with a sharp knife.
- Grill or pan-fry until golden.
- Serve in flatbread with tomato, onion, and pickles.
Serving Tips:
Serve with garlic yogurt sauce, spicy red sauce, or tahini sauce. It also pairs perfectly with rice or bulgur pilaf.
